Graduate Site Reliability Engineer / FPGA Developer

Description

Enjoy solving complex problems and optimizing system performance? Want to have direct impact from day one? Do you like working with dynamic people in an international environment?

Then you might be the Graduate Site Reliability Engineer we are looking for.

Start your career with Optiver, a global leader in electronic trading. We build and maintain low latency trading systems that respond to market events in nanoseconds. As a leading technology-based market maker and liquidity provider, we are committed to improving the market by providing efficiencies for end investors. Using our own capital at our own risk, we trade thousands of financial instruments on more than 50 exchanges around the world, contributing to healthy markets and putting us at the forefront of technology and trading.

Our Systems

At Optiver, engineering is at the core of our trading strategies. Trading is a complex and unpredictable environment with frequent changes and a high load. Our systems have to be fast, reliable and precise. Our engineers continually refine, store, and analyse hundreds of terabytes of data, enabling us to automatically price large, diverse sets of financial instruments with extremely low error tolerance. Our infrastructure is a combination of 10 000 highly customised components and 600 different applications, which run on 1500 servers distributed globally. We deal with 14 000 releases and 35 000 changes per year.

Reliability engineering at Optiver focuses on prevention and swift resolution of operational issues, guarding the reliability and performance of our systems. Reliability to us means having full control over our systems and guaranteeing proper functioning even in the most extreme market conditions. Simplicity and deterministic behavior are important aspects of reliability to us.

Your Day-to-Day

As a Graduate Site Reliability Engineer, you deploy, monitor, and configure a suite of proprietary trading applications. You work on the trading floor alongside Traders, Researchers and fellow Engineers to identify and troubleshoot issues that arise. You collaborate with software development teams to ensure the health and stability of the production trading environment. You develop tools to make daily activities more efficient and consistent. With a hands-on mentality, you always strive for the simplest solutions. Your big challenge will be balancing complexity with system performance and a reliable trading environment.

About
Jane Street works differently. We are a quantitative trading firm active on more than 200 trading venues across 45 countries. As a liquidity provider and market maker, we help form the backbone of global markets. Our approach is rooted in technology and rigorous quantitative analysis, but our success is driven by our people.

Our bright, beautiful offices in the heart of New York, London, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam are open and buzzing with conversation. We come from many backgrounds and encourage travel between offices to share perspectives. Some of our best ideas come from bumping into a colleague at the office coffee bar.

Markets move fast. Staying competitive as we’ve grown has required constant invention—of new trading strategies, technology, and processes. We’ve found this is easier when you hire humble, kind people. They tend to help each other, and prioritize teamwork over titles.

We invest heavily in teaching and training. There’s a library and a classroom in every office, because deepening your understanding of something is considered real work. Guest lectures, classes, and conferences round out the intellectual exchanges that happen every day.

People grow into long careers at Jane Street because there are always new and interesting problems to solve, systems to build, and theories to test. More than twenty years after our founding, it still feels like we’re just getting started.

Work at Jane Street is exciting and challenging. We trade in incredibly competitive, fast-paced environments, and feedback on successes and failures is quick and tangible. This allows for constant evaluation and improvement of our strategies and performance.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
