Quantitative Trader Internship

Description

About the Program

Our internships centre around hands-on mentorship and a robust educational curriculum that includes challenging classes, interactive sessions, and small group discussions. Over the course of 10-12 weeks, you’ll be matched with full-time employees in your role who will mentor you as you tackle real-world projects they design. You’ll also be able to access our physical and virtual educational resources, attend guest speakers and social events, and hopefully get a real sense of what it would be like to work here full time.

If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company—many of us were in the same position before working here. If you have a curious mind, a collaborative nature, and a passion for solving interesting problems, we have a feeling you’ll fit right in.

About the Position

As a Quantitative Trading intern, you’ll be part of an immersive experience, paired with experienced Traders who will teach you how we identify market signals, analyse and execute trading strategies, construct quantitative models, conduct statistical analysis, and build trading intuition.

During the program you'll work on projects that expose you to the wide variety of problems we solve every day. Interns have the chance to be mentored sequentially by full-time employees working in two different areas of trading. Quantitative Trading interns work on a diverse range of projects with their mentors, conducting studies on new or existing datasets, building quantitative models, writing new tools, or even considering big-picture questions that we're still trying to figure out. Project work is complemented by classes on the broader fundamentals of markets and trading, lunch seminars, and dozens of simulated interactive trading sessions.

A profitable trading strategy is only as strong as the technology it runs on, and we consider ourselves as much a technology company as a trading firm. While exposure to a particular programming language is not required, general programming experience is a plus.

About
Jane Street works differently. We are a quantitative trading firm active on more than 200 trading venues across 45 countries. As a liquidity provider and market maker, we help form the backbone of global markets. Our approach is rooted in technology and rigorous quantitative analysis, but our success is driven by our people.

Our bright, beautiful offices in the heart of New York, London, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam are open and buzzing with conversation. We come from many backgrounds and encourage travel between offices to share perspectives. Some of our best ideas come from bumping into a colleague at the office coffee bar.

Markets move fast. Staying competitive as we’ve grown has required constant invention—of new trading strategies, technology, and processes. We’ve found this is easier when you hire humble, kind people. They tend to help each other, and prioritize teamwork over titles.

We invest heavily in teaching and training. There’s a library and a classroom in every office, because deepening your understanding of something is considered real work. Guest lectures, classes, and conferences round out the intellectual exchanges that happen every day.

People grow into long careers at Jane Street because there are always new and interesting problems to solve, systems to build, and theories to test. More than twenty years after our founding, it still feels like we’re just getting started.

Culture
Work at Jane Street is exciting and challenging. We trade in incredibly competitive, fast-paced environments, and feedback on successes and failures is quick and tangible. This allows for constant evaluation and improvement of our strategies and performance.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
